The Big Event: 2009

Today the brothers of the Beta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Chi spent the morning and early afternoon in community service activities at the Crown Heights neighborhood in Oklahoma City. The Big Event is a University of Oklahoma sponsored event, where all student groups, and individually comprised groups, volunteer all over the Norman and Oklahoma City area and do various projects benefiting the community. The brothers spent the day doing landscaping work and cleaning up the creek in the Crown Heights neighborhood. The Big Event coincided with the neighborhood’s yearly cleaning day, so various people living in the neighborhood were also helping with the cleaning effort. Along with the brothers and locals was Kappa Delta Phi sorority. The brothers trimmed trees, spread mulch, and clean trash out of the creek running through the neighborhood. The brothers got to meet some of the neighborhood locals, and hope to volunteer at the neighborhood for future Big Events. At the end of the volunteer work, gracious locals were kind enough to supply food from Sonic for the brothers and women of Kappa Delta Phi, and brothers were able to spend time with locals, and spend time together as brothers in a day of service and brotherhood.
