Outstanding Pledgeship

Making the transition into college life, or anything really, can be a daunting task if one is left to their own devices.  Pledgeship at Beta Kappa- Sigma Chi has facilitated the acclimation of many young men into the real world through their structured preparation for brotherhood.  This fall we have seen even greater progress than expected.  This is undoubtedly due to the proven and structured tenants of our program.  These brothers to be have been given an environment that facilitates and supports rigorous academic studies, while still balancing an active social life through weekly events with sororities on campus.  Just last Thursday the 2009 pledge class met with the new members of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority for, interestingly enough, laser tag at the house.

The evening began as usual, the pledges and Kappas met and made small talk as they waited for the activities to begin.  As they made their way outside they were greeted by large inflatable fortifications and a man hold a massive “laser rifle”.  At first everyone was somewhat skittish, it is after all a little strange to be walking around with girls with sensors strapped to their heads and carrying guns; but once everyone became comfortable they quickly began to run amok all over the property.  “It was the most fun I have had at a mixer yet” said Sigma Chi Pledge Brian Pedicord.  Apart from the obvious social aspects, pledgeship itself, at Beta Kappa, has a natural bonding effect.  As these young men have work and spend time together day in and day out, no matter their different temperaments, talents, and convictions, they have naturally grown closer and become friends.
