History
On Friday April 12, 1912 William V. Brothers, Chicago, Ill., Grand Quaestor of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, was met at the Norman, Oklahoma train station by a number of Sigma Chi alumni from Oklahoma City together with a “chain gang” of 26 uniquely uniformed pledges from the Lambda Chi local fraternity for instillation of the Beta Kappa Chapter at the University of Oklahoma as the 85th chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Parts of the ceremonies were held in Woodman Hall in Downtown Norman. Similar ceremonies continued at the local chapter house till well past midnight.
Very early Saturday morning April 20th, the whole group took a train to Oklahoma City for a luncheon at the Lee Hucking Hotel. Later on that day, the Fredericks-Kroh Music Hall was scene of the first initiation ceremonies where 26 initiated were “full pledged Sigma Chi’s, wearing their white cross and feeling mighty lucky to be alive.” That evening the completed ceremonies were held where 52 plates laid, serving as the largest gathering of Sigma Chis that even met in Oklahoma.
